"The highest point of the Pennines — an epic ridge walk above the clouds"

About

Cross Fell at 893m is the highest point in the Pennine Hills — a vast, wild and seldom-visited plateau at the roof of northern England. Unlike the more touristy Lake District fells, Cross Fell has a genuine sense of remoteness and adventure. It sits on the Pennine Way long-distance trail and is home to the curious Helm Wind, a fierce local katabatic wind so powerful it was noted by Isaac Newton. The plateau is the source of the River Tees and on clear days offers views from the Yorkshire Dales to the Scottish borders.
